Newport Carbon Titanium
Setting Sail for the Route du Rhum
After earning a double world champion title in freeride skiing and a recent world champion title in Class40, Aurélien Ducroz is preparing to set sail on November 6th for a new challenge: the Route du Rhum 2022. To accompany its ambassador on this legendary solo transatlantic race, the French watchmaking house HERBELIN has designed an automatic timepiece engineered for the most extreme situations: the Newport Carbone Titane. Released in a limited edition of 500 numbered pieces, this chronograph, equipped with a regatta countdown function, promises to be a reliable teammate, inspiring one to push the boundaries of possibility and pursue the boldest dreams. Fair winds to this high-tech racing machine, both in its materials, its functions, and its sleek design.
HIGH-TECH
Echoing the colors of Aurélien Ducroz's Class40 boat, this HERBELIN sports watch is crafted from high-tech materials. Combining carbon and titanium, it reduces the timepiece's weight while enhancing its resilience.
Revealing a unique aesthetic through its very material composition, carbon is renowned for its exceptional resistance to both shocks and temperature variations. It thus ensures unwavering robustness while offering genuine comfort on the wrist due to its lightness. Paired with titanium, celebrated for its incredible featherweight, hardness, and significant resistance to shocks and corrosion, this sensation of comfort and lightness is further amplified. DLC treated – Diamond Like Carbon – on this new Newport (central lugs, container, crown, pushers, screws, and buckle), it will remain impervious to the ravages of time.
SPORTY
Adopting a carbon forging method used in aeronautics, the case, generous with its 46.5 mm diameter, is crafted from forged carbon. Mounted on a DLC-treated titanium container, it ensures total water resistance up to 300 meters. The entire assembly is secured by five screws, visible on the carbon bezel.
Also crafted from forged carbon, the case back featuring the dial echoes the map of marine currents from Saint-Malo, the departure city for the 2022 Route du Rhum. Harmonizing with the stylized hour and minute hands, faceted, black-plated indices, coated with white luminescent material, mark a minute track paced by groups of five minutes, underscored by a yellow outline. Highly precise and perfectly legible, it is complemented, at 3 o'clock, by a double day/date window framed by a fine yellow rectangle.
Infusing the Newport DNA – central bracelet lugs, porthole-style bezel, screws evoking sailboat winches, a marine wheel stamped on the crown – into the world of competition, this model enhances its sporty character with its strap. Designed specifically to complement the watch's case, it adopts the same Pantone Yellow 809C as Aurélien Ducroz's boat. Crafted from high-performance FKM elastomer with a deployant clasp and safety buckle, it is guaranteed for ten years due to its exceptionally resistant and high-performing material.
WATCHMAKER
Developed in close collaboration with Aurélien Ducroz, this chronograph is equipped with a regatta countdown function based on 15 minutes. Practical for setting a race start time within a predefined period, this feature is materialized in the sub-dial at 12 o'clock. Reflecting the overall design for quick information reading, it features a sunburst background with a hatched engraving on the "start" section to create contrast and thus maximum legibility. Activated by the first gun with a press on the pusher at 2 o'clock, the yellow hand tipped with white luminescent coating travels through three five-minute zones. While the first two display white indices, the last is distinguished by five numerals inscribed in descending order, alerting to the imminent start.
A precision instrument, this sporty racing watch is finished with a sub-dial at 6 o'clock. Paired with a central yellow seconds hand featuring a white luminescent tip, designed specifically for this limited edition along with the model's other hands, it measures elapsed time up to 12 hours.
As an additional nod to the Route du Rhum, each sub-dial is encircled by the race's GPS coordinates, specified at noon for the start in Saint-Malo and at 6 o'clock for the arrival in Pointe-à-Pitre. Between these points lies a legendary 3,542-mile (6,562-kilometer) course, navigated by 138 sailors across six boat categories, all vying for the fastest time to win this 12th edition.
Housing an exclusive HERBELIN Swiss-made mechanical movement with automatic winding (Sellita 13 ¼ SW501 BV a), oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and featuring 25 jewels, the Newport Carbone Titane boasts an impressive 62-hour power reserve. Its smoked transparent case back reveals a HERBELIN engraved oscillating weight. Designed, conceived, hand-assembled, regulated, and controlled in the HERBELIN workshops located in the Jura mountains of Franche-Comté, it showcases traditional French watchmaking savoir-faire passed down from father to son since 1947.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURE
Engraved on the case back with the number X/500, this Made in France watch is already available at partner retailers and the HERBELIN boutique, the brand's first global flagship, which recently opened on Rue Bonaparte in Paris, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
A future collector's item, the Newport Carbon Titanium is sold in a Wolf watch winder box. Always in motion, ready to meet challenges, it embodies the spirit of HERBELIN, a French watchmaking heritage for 75 years.
