Built for action

French watchmaker HERBELIN celebrated the 30th anniversary of its iconic Newport collection of 1988 by completely redesigning its automatic chronograph. With an elegant new look inspired by the futuristic architecture of stealth ships, it began life as a limited edition. It now joins the collection sporting a new dress code. Subtly combining black with a deep blue, it anchors its naval spirit in the urban world. This sporty-chic timepiece is designed for city dwellers for whom every minute counts.

The steel case, 43.5 millimetres in diameter, is both brushed and polished to emphasise its three-faceted outline. The push-pieces, now faceted and rectangular in shape, are located on either side of the conical crown, accentuating the geometry of the case. The bezel, which matches the case, bears the discreetly engraved name “Newport” and five screws reminiscent of sailing boat windlasses, and reveals a dial displaying a carefully balanced combination of practical functions for everyday life

Set against a plain black background, the tapered and faceted hour markers are carefully inserted into the minutes scale. Rhodium-plated hands, partially finished with luminescent coating to match the imposing hour markers, provide optimum readability.

A functional instrument adapted to numerous activities, this automatic Newport chronograph can record elapsed times up to 12 hours. Three dedicated sub-dials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock display minute and hour counters and a small seconds hand. The chronograph’s range of functionalities would not be complete without a date window. Displayed at 4:30, it is the perfect reconciliation of discretion with legibility

This HERBELIN timepiece is water-resistant to 100 metres and sports a black leather strap with blue topstitching. Rounded in the middle and presenting a folding clasp, its attention to detail perfects its elegant allure.

Boasting a 62-hour power reserve, this Newport chronograph is powered by a Swissmade automatic mechanical movement (Sellita SW510), oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and incorporating 27 jewels. Its oscillating weight with “HERBELIN” engraving is visible through the transparent caseback. Made in France Designed, engineered, assembled by hand, adjusted, and inspected at the HERBELIN workshops in the Jura mountains of the Franche-Comté region, this finely-tuned new watch highlights the excellence of traditional French watchmaking expertise passed down from father to son for 75 years

Ready for any eventuality, it’s an ally you can count on whenever time is of the essence. Just ask Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin, who was one of the first to try it for size in the film Novembre.
