To the beat of a self-winding movement

The Cap Camarat collection, launched in 2018 by French watchmaker HERBELIN, gets its name from a cape located in the south of the Saint-Tropez peninsula. Injecting the brand’s watchmaking heritage into contemporary style, it has been constantly enriched over the years and in 2022 a watch with a square case was introduced. With its seductively elegant design, it was a resounding success. Originally launched in a quartz version, the Cap Camarat Square is now available with a self-winding movement. Retaining its neo-vintage feel with an urban spirit, this new timepiece will satisfy every aficionado of fine mechanisms, while offering versatility of wear with its sporty-chic look.

TIME SQUARE

Structuring time in a square format with rounded corners, the stainless steel case (39 mm x 39 mm) reveals a highly geometric robustness, accentuated by the crown protection. Sporting a bezel adorned with six decorative screws positioned in an extension of the hour markers, the ensemble is contrasted by a vertical brushed finish highlighted with polished facets, completing the watch’s sporty elegance.

While it is identical to the earlier model in terms of case design, the self-winding Cap Camarat Square has a decidedly different dial. The black horizontal-stamped background provides contrast for perfect readability. The bevelled hour markers and faceted rectangular hour and minute hands, with a luminescent coating, are inspired by the original model in terms of their shape, typical of the 1970s. Standing out in white, the central seconds hand punctuates an extremely precise minute track on the encircling flange.

The timepiece features a date aperture at 6 o’clock and is mounted on a black strap in high-performance FKM elastomer. It was specially designed to fit the contours of the watch and is guaranteed for 10 years thanks to its highly durable material. With a raised centre and cutout sides, its shape echoes the existing metal bracelet. Upholding the watchmaking norms of the period, it is always integrated into the case and enhances the model’s charisma while remaining extremely supple and comfortable to wear.

A SWISS-MADE SELF-WINDING MECHANISM

This new HERBELIN timepiece is water-resistant to 100 metres. It is designed, assembled, adjusted and inspected at the brand’s workshops in the Jura mountains of the Franche-Comté region. Benefiting from French watchmaking expertise passed down from father to son for over 75 years, it presents a Swiss-made self-winding movement, a mark of quality and reliability: the Sellita SW 200-1. Popular among specialists thanks to its robustness and endurance, the calibre, with a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) has a 38-hour power reserve. Watch enthusiasts will appreciate the transparent case back through which the the mechanism’s gears, including the Herbelin engraved oscillating weight, may be admired.

Bringing a 1970s HERBELIN heritage model up to date, the Cap Camarat Square is bound to make an impression, with an elegance that is proud to be different.
